Feeling hot, hot hot!

As I'm sure you are aware (unless you live in an underground bunker with air conditioning) It has been roasting in the UK this week. With temperatures recorded as high as 34 Celsius which is more than 45% over the average for June. This obviously has a whole host of effects on our body including overheating and dehydration. Here are 5 great tips to stay in top working order during a heatwave.

Drink Water

Step one is possibly the most important. Staying hydrated during the increased heat not only helps to replace lost water from sweat but also helps to improve your brain activity and keep your core temperature down. Steer away from drinks loaded with caffeine as although you may prefer the taste of things like energy drinks or coffee the high amounts of caffeine can cause you to sweat more and you may crash later in the afternoon due to the sugar.

Keep the windows closed

If there isn't a lovely cool breeze rolling past your office keep the windows closed! You'll only be letting warmer air in and doing the exact opposite of what you are trying to achieve.

Wear lighter clothing

Dependent of you office's dress code wearing something a little thinner or lighter can make a huge difference to how warm you are at work. Trading your shirt to a smart polo, skinny leg trousers to something slightly wider or swapping the thick winter dress to a one that's slightly thinner and more airy can help the cause. Obviously you need to keep it professional and ask your boss what is acceptable and what isn't.

Take a breather

Taking five minutes away from your desk outside in the shade can be great as a little break from a stuffy office, the fresh air is perfect for recharging your batteries.

Spray Bottle

Fill a spray bottle with cold water and keep it in the fridge when you're feeling the heat a small spritz can be just what you need to cool off.
