Help us to help Oxford’s most in need!

As the recent news headlines have suggested, we’re in for a prolonged spell of very cold weather this winter. With temperatures in Oxfordshire having already dropped to - 4.9°C, scientists have predicted that the ‘La Nina’ phenomenon will herald an unusually cold start to this winter; the coldest for 7 years.

Those more vulnerable in the winter include the elderly, infants and the chronically ill, with weather-related deaths reaching a staggering 25,000 per year. Whilst we consider these susceptible people, we may not have thought about the many individuals living on the streets of our local towns who are at grave risk.

You’ll be pleased to learn that business students from Abingdon & Witney College have launched a #100coats project. The students aim to gather at least 100 clean winter coats for the homeless by 13th December, and are also asking donors to attach a luggage tag with a message to the recipient of the clothing.

Local charity OxHop – Oxfordshire’s Homeless Pathways – will be helping to distribute the clothing, and Aston & James are storing all any donations.

We want to help spread the word on this admirable campaign and ask for your kind donations to provide essential warmth for those without a home this winter.

We’ve made it simple for you to donate. Simply hunt out your unwanted coats from the depths of your wardrobe and bring them to work. When we drop off your next delivery, we will collect your old coats and store them at our warehouse. We’ll then deliver them to OxHop’s headquarters, O’Hanlon House, for distribution to those most in need. Men’s coats are in greatest demand, but the donation of any coat would be wholly welcomed.

And for every coat we collect, Aston and James will also donate a warm pair of gloves and woolly hat, making your kindness go even further!

Any help and support you can offer would be most appreciated. Please do support our local homeless.
